Concave Sapphire
A magnificent natural color sapphire from Sri Lanka that weighed a little over six carats.
This stone was (naturally) custom cut by Richard Homer with concave facets on the bottom of the stone that give it its tremendous brilliance and scintillation. Richard is currently the only cutter in the world doing concave faceting of sapphires, using a technique and polishing compound that took him more than three years to develop.
Personally, I think the effort was well worth it, as the owner tells me she never wears the ring without being stopped to have it looked at more closely. Set in 18kt yellow gold and platinum, the stone is flanked by two 1/4ct diamonds.
