When a diamond is cut to precise proportions, light is reflected from one facet to another and dispersed through the crown of the stone. If the cut of the diamond is too deep, some light escapes through the opposite side of the gemstone. If the cut is too shallow, light again escapes before it can be reflected. Only the world's most skilled cutters can successfully unleash a diamond's rare fire.
